Mixed Reactions as School Expels 19 Final Year Secondary Students Who Sneaked Out to Swim After One Drowns in River

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that Netizens have reacted to a tragic incident which led to the expulsion of nineteen secondary school students after they allegedly left school premises without the school permission to swim in a nearby river, resulting in the drowning and death of one student.
OTN News further reports that the heartbreaking incident which was made public via a video shared on TikTok, and where a woman believed to be a school authority was seen addressing the students involved, sternly informed the students that they had been expelled from the school for their misconduct, although noted that they might still be allowed to return under certain conditions to write their final examinations.
According to details shared in the video post, about 20 students organized an unauthorized trip to swim in a nearby river, completely disregarding school rules.
Unfortunately, what was meant to be a fun outing turned into a tragedy when one of the students drowned and could not be rescued.
However, the post has since gone viral, raising a wave of emotional reactions and debate across social media platforms, with many questioning both the students’ actions and the school’s disciplinary approach.
Furthermore, the expulsion has also stirred strong opinions from users online, many of whom sympathize with the students and the family of the deceased, while others stress the need for stricter security and student discipline.
