The alumni of the Mass Communication Department at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State, donated a 3.15KWP solar power system to the school.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that this donation, organized by the 2003/04 Class of Presidents from the Association of Student Communicators, commemorated their 20th graduation anniversary over the weekend.

After the project unveiling, the alumni, many of whom are now successful in fields like journalism, broadcasting, and public relations, gathered at Rotary House in Iyaganku, Ibadan, for a celebratory event.

The set’s president, Rotimi Wusu, explained that the project was inspired by their own challenges with the Institution’s power supply years ago.

He encouraged current students to use available resources, including social media, to make an impact. “Strive for excellence, and let your light shine beyond these walls," he advised.

The Special Guest of Honour at the event, Oyo State’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism and a former lecturer in the department, Wasiu Olatunbosun, praised the group’s initiative, calling them a “Set of Achievers” and highlighting the importance of giving back.

Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, thanked the alumni, noting that their contribution addresses a significant issue for the Institution: power reliability. Dr. Olusoji Olatunji, Head of the Mass Communication Department, expressed gratitude for their dedication to supporting the institution’s growth.
