Kwam 1 Flight Ban is No Longer a Six-Month Issue, It is Now Indefinite, Pending Full Investigation - NCAA

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that the travel restriction placed on Fuji music legend, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, will now remain in effect indefinitely, overturning the earlier six-month limit.
OTN News further reports that the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, speaking during an interview on TVC, disclosed that the ban would not be lifted until investigations into the recent airport incident involving the singer are fully concluded.
According to him, “It is no longer a six-month issue. The restriction will remain in place until the investigation is complete. There is no definite timeline."
Providing insight into preliminary findings, Achimugu explained that KWAM 1 had successfully passed security checks and gained access to the VIP lounge, where he is believed to have obtained a bottle of water. However, during a subsequent boarding security screening, the liquid was flagged, and he was informed it could not be taken on board.
According to the NCAA spokesperson, the singer allegedly refused to comply and proceeded toward the aircraft. Security personnel, reportedly trying to avoid escalation, walked alongside him to the tarmac.
The situation took a turn when KWAM 1 allegedly attempted to demonstrate the harmlessness of the water by splashing it, with some of the liquid hitting the pilot. The pilot, feeling disrespected, returned to the cockpit and shut the aircraft door, he narrated.
Achimugu stressed that the details remain preliminary and unverified, assuring the public that the matter is being handled with utmost seriousness and transparency.
“This matter has been escalated to the highest legal authorities in the country, including the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police. We are committed to a thorough process, and the findings will be made public once finalized,” he said.
The NCAA, however, reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation, insisting that the case will not be swept under the carpet.
