Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reflected on the emotional challenges he faced after his 2015 election defeat to Muhammadu Buhari.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the former Nigerian President opened up while speaking at the inaugural Raymond Dokpesi Annual Diamond Lecture over the weekend, publicly sharing his experience on how difficult it was to accept the loss, marking the first time in Nigeria’s history that a sitting President was defeated.
Buhari, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), won with 15,424,921 votes, surpassing Jonathan's 12,853,162 votes under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Jonathan expressed gratitude to the late Dokpesi, former Chairman of Daar Communications, for offering him critical support during that tough period.
“It’s not easy losing an election as a President. It feels like the whole world is against you,” Jonathan said.
“Dokpesi invited me before the handover and encouraged me to look beyond the loss. His words gave me hope but not just for the transition but also for my personal and spiritual growth as a private citizen.”
Jonathan further noted that these experiences are detailed in his book, "My Transition Hours."
