The Police has warned Nigerians to beware of online dating sites following the discovery of the lifeless body of 23-year-old, Miss Precious Yusuf, along DLA Road, opposite Falcon Club, in Asaba, Delta State, after she reportedly visited a man she had met through a dating website.
Confirming the incident in a statement on Saturday, OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, Mr. Bright Edafe, disclosed that the remains have been taken to a mortuary, pending an autopsy.
"The Delta State Police Command extends condolences to the family of Miss Yusuf," Edafe stated.
"On October 24, 2024, at approximately 8:40am, the DPO of 'A' Division Asaba received a distress call about the discovery of a young woman’s corpse along DLA Road."
Edafe further explained that CSP, Rex Abiodun, the Divisional Police Officer, quickly dispatched officers to the scene.
"Preliminary findings revealed that on October 22, 2024, Miss Yusuf told a friend she was going to meet a male acquaintance she had connected with through the iHappy dating platform," Edafe noted.
"She left for Coka that day, and on October 23, around 7:30am., she called her friend to say she was on her way back home. Tragically, that was the last time anyone heard from her before her body was found the following day."
The police spokesperson assured that investigations are ongoing, with the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, pledging to ensure a thorough inquiry and justice for the victim’s family.
In conclusion, Edafe also issued a public warning, urging young women to be vigilant about the individuals they associate with, especially those met through dating apps and social media platforms.
