As India mourns the death of over 270 people who died in the ill-fated India plane last week, a helicopter carrying six people has crashed on Sunday in the Gaurikund area of Uttarakhand, northern India, according to Indian news agency ANI.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the aircraft had earlier been reported missing before authorities confirmed the crash, which was attributed to poor weather conditions.
As at press time, OTN News repoets that rescue and relief operations are underway, with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), local administration, and other emergency teams on site.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami confirmed the incident via a post on X (formerly Twitter), assuring that all possible efforts were being made to assist victims.
Officials told broadcaster India that the helicopter lost its course due to adverse weather, though details about the passengers and their condition have not yet been made public as at the time of publishing this report.
