The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has announced that he would abandon his plans to contest for the presidency in 2027 if former President, Goodluck Jonathan, decides to re-enter the race.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija (OTN) News gathered that during a meeting at the Government House in Bauchi, Governor Mohammed of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was encouraged by a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) to consider running for the presidency.
In response, Mohammed highlighted his respect for former President Goodluck Jonathan, stating that Jonathan’s leadership and experience make him a superior candidate.
He said, “I am still weighing my options as a leader in the opposition, but I have always maintained that as long as Jonathan remains in the picture, I will not pursue the presidency unless he chooses to step aside."
"If we can convince him to run, I will support him wholeheartedly."
He further praised Jonathan’s achievements, particularly his inclusive leadership, youth initiatives, and efforts to reform the Almajiri system, asserting that Jonathan is better equipped for the job.
Mohammed also clarified that his critiques of President Bola Tinubu’s administration are aimed at ensuring the country follows the right course, emphasizing that as a leader, it is his duty to speak out.
