Governor Dapo Abiodun Honours Late Son, Expands Over N90 Million Naira to Over 800 Students For Educational Support Programme
The Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Support Programme has disbursed Over N90 Million Naira to Over 800 Students For Educational Support Programme, in memory of their late son, Gbemiga, who passed on in 2017.

The Gbemiga Abiodun Memorial Education Support Programme has disbursed substantial funds to students across various educational levels in Ogun State by the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in honour of his late son, Gbemiga Abiodun.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that, at the second edition of the programme, held at Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu-Remo, ₦39.75 million was allocated to 159 students from nine tertiary institutions, ₦14.7 million to 294 primary school pupils, and ₦36.6 million to 366 secondary students from Ikenne, Remo-North, and Sagamu LGAs.
Initiated by Governor Dapo Abiodun and his family in memory of their late son, Gbemiga, who passed on in 2017, the programme aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students.
Governor Abiodun who praised his late son as a dynamic and generous individual, announced a new "Creative Students Category" to support students in the creative industry, in line with Gbemiga’s passion for creativity.
He affirmed the family’s commitment to expanding the programme beyond the three Remo LGAs to all 20 local Governments in Ogun State.
The Governor also emphasized Gbemiga’s generous nature, stating that the programme continues his legacy of giving.
The programme, which began in 2023 with 600 beneficiaries, has now expanded to support an additional 400 students.
According to the Governor, it seeks to turn a tragic day into a positive one by supporting education in Gbemiga’s memory.
Also, the programme coordinator, Rev'd Bola Oyeledun, highlighted the importance of mentoring students, not just providing financial aid.
He encouraged school administrators to work closely with the foundation to foster sustained academic progress for beneficiaries.
OTN News recalls that the Ogun State Education Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, applauded the Abiodun family’s dedication to education, urging beneficiaries to excel in their studies.
Afolabi Seriki, a close friend of Gbemiga, recalled his academic excellence and entrepreneurial spirit, emphasizing his influence as a disc jockey and entrepreneur.
Beneficiaries, represented by Yahaya Soliat, Adebanjo Goodluck, and Evelyn Falaye from primary, secondary, and tertiary categories, expressed their gratitude for the financial support, noting its impact on their academic futures.
The event however, ended with a ceremonial cheque presentation to school officials and parents.
OTN News further gathered that the applications for the Creative Students Category remain open until October 7, 2025, for individuals aged 6-25 from Ikenne, Remo-North, and Sagamu.
