In a disturbing incident, a peaceful protest at the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja took a dangerous turn when operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) and Police Force allegedly opened fire on a vehicle carrying journalists from the Premium Times and The Cable Newspaper, highlighting the risks faced by media professionals in Nigeria.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News also gatherer that at least six vehicles filled with masked Department of State Services (DSS) agents had taken control of the Moshood Abiola stadium in Abuja, where the #Endbadgovernance protest began on Saturday.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija further reports that numerous civilian demonstrators were attacked and dispersed by unruly Nigerian police officers.
A journalist who witnessed the ugly incident recounted that "They fired at us three times, and it was only by God's grace that we were saved. The bullets struck the car bumper we were using."
The protesters and journalists had gathered peacefully before police violently interrupted them with teargas on Saturday morning.
A witness during the scene disclosed that "Six vehicles full of DSS agents and soldiers have driven away the peaceful protesters."
"This is the kind of democracy President Bola Tinubu has delivered to Nigerians. The atmosphere is extremely tense, and the DSS agents are loading their rifles, threatening to shoot anyone who continues the protest." revealed another reporter.
