France Pledges Full Counter Terrorism Support to Nigeria

French President Emmanuel Macron has assured Nigeria of Paris’ renewed commitment to supporting the country’s intensified fight against terrorism and widening security threats across several states.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA OTN News reports as gathered that Macron, in a message shared on X on Sunday, said he had spoken with President Bola Tinubu to convey France’s solidarity as Nigeria confronts repeated killings, mass abductions, and violent raids, especially in the northern region.

“No one can remain a bystander,” Macron wrote, stressing that the deepening insecurity requires coordinated international action.

"I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North. At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement.”

The French leader’s assurance comes as Nigeria faces one of its most turbulent security periods in recent years, marked by back-to-back attacks, school kidnappings and deadly raids on rural communities.

It would be recalled that President Tinubu had on November 26 declared a nationwide security emergency following a series of high-profile attacks.

The President also ordered the armed forces and police to embark on accelerated recruitment to reinforce security operations nationwide.

In recent weeks, attacks in Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger states have triggered widespread fear, with hundreds killed or abducted.

The assurance of support for the Nigerian government came at a time when high magnitude abductions and terror attacks have been unleashed on innocent citizens, including school children and church worshippers in different parts of the West African country
