OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the former Governor of Oyo State and Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has called on the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, to intensify efforts in promoting unity among traditional rulers across Yorubaland.
OTN News further reports that Ladoja made the appeal on Sunday when he hosted the Ooni at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, ahead of his installation as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland scheduled for Friday, September 26, 2025.
He is set to succeed Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.
The Olubadan-designate stressed that Yoruba monarchs must place emphasis on cultural values and institutions that foster harmony rather than division, noting that the public looks to traditional rulers not only for leadership but also for inspiration and protection.
“If we all come together with our ideas, with yours, we will have our way. As God will have it, the president of the country is our son, and he has assured me he will attend my coronation,” Ladoja said.
Furthermore, he described the Ooni as a unifier whose influence extends beyond Ile-Ife, urging him to continue using his position to strengthen bonds among Yoruba monarchs.
“Your role is spiritually significant. Yoruba unity must start with the unity of our traditional rulers, for if they are united, the political class cannot manipulate us,” he added.
Ladoja also thanked the Ooni for his support over the years, particularly during his political and personal challenges.
He charged Ibadan Mogajis to combat drug abuse in their communities and warned Baales against betraying their people.
In his remarks, Ooni Ogunwusi described Ladoja as “a father of all,” noting that his ascension to the Olubadan throne marks a turning point for Yoruba traditional leadership.
He called on monarchs to avoid rivalry and divisions, stressing the need to build legacies of peace and dignity.
“We cannot afford division among ourselves. If we fail to unite, we fail our ancestors and our people,” the Ooni warned, while also advising Ladoja to remain vigilant against detractors.
The meeting was described as both historic and spiritually significant, reflecting the critical moment Yorubaland faces in ensuring unity and stability within its traditional institutions.
