OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that a 19-year-old candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Miss Aaue Samuel Olubari, has made history by winning a councillorship seat in Rivers State, becoming the youngest councillor in the state’s political history.

OTN News further reports as gathered that this new development was made known shortly after the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the outcome of the election.

OTN News recalls that the Rivers State Local Government elections, conducted on Saturday, August 30, 2025, across 6,866 polling units in 319 wards, produced new local government chairpersons and councillors to replace the council administrators appointed in April 2025.

The elections followed a Supreme Court ruling in February 2025, which nullified the previous council polls held on October 5, 2024.

However, announcing the results, the RSIEC declared that the APC won in 20 out of 23 local government areas, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victories in Obio/Akpor, Ogba/Egbema/Ndon, and Port Harcourt City LGAs. APC candidates also triumphed in Ahoada East, Asari Toru, Ikwerre, Bonny, Degema, Eleme, Etche, Gokana, and Khana LGAs.

Miss Olubari, who contested for the councillorship of Bangha Ward 7 in Khana Local Government Area, was officially introduced to the political stage by APC Khana Chairman, Hon. Barile Ebenezer, during a ward-to-ward sensitization campaign days before the election.

OTN News observes from the information gathered that her victory not only cements APC’s dominance in the Rivers State polls but also highlights a new wave of youth participation in politics.

The election witnessed participation from several political parties, including APC, PDP, Labour Party (LP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Zenith Party, Accord, African Action Congress (AAC), Action People’s Party (APP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Action Alliance (AA), Youth Party (YP), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Democratic Party (ADP), New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), and Allied People’s Party (APP).
