Fight Against Unemployment: Nigerian Politician Empowers Youth With Jerrycans, Wheelbarrows

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that in a programme design as part of ongoing efforts by the Roni LGA leadership to provide practical tools that can help youths generate income and improve their livelihoods, led by the Chairman of Roni Local Government Area (LGA) and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abba Ya’u, saw beneficiaries receive jerrycans and wheelbarrows (four-wheeled pushcart) as part of the initiative.
OTN News further reports that a social media user, Obiasogu David, who shared the images from the event, which has now been widely shared on social media, show Dr. Ya’u posing with young beneficiaries alongside rows of bright orange jerrycans and wheelbarrows, reportedly aimed at supporting small-scale trading and manual labour activities.
The user who, shared the images alongside a comment that reads, “this is the Youth Empowerment Programme of the Chairman of Roni LGA, in Jigawa state, Dr. Abba Ya’u, a member of the APC.”
OTN News observes that this new development has raised different concerns from citizens on all social media channel, with some labeling the initiative as a failed and unreasonable action, while others appreciate the government concern.
However, as of press time, neither Dr. Ya’u nor the Jigawa State chapter of the APC had issued an official statement detailing further plans or follow-up support for the empowerment initiative.
