Ogun Police Arrests Wanted Notorious Kidnapper on Way to Abduct Prominent Individual

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping unit of the Ogun State police command have apprehended a wanted serial kidnapper, identified as Clement Elijah, and also recover weapons he used in past operations.

OTN News further reports that the Ogun State Police Command public relations officer, PPRO, CSP Omolola Odutola, who disclosed this in a press release at the command headquarters Eleweran, Abeokuta, on Tuesday, noted that, Elijah had been on the run since 2024 in connection with a high-profile Kidnapping incident at Ajelanwa village, Ogun State.

She noted that ever since then, two of his accomplices were taken into custody at the time he was declared wanted.

However, luck ran out of his way on Monday 13, 2025, when he was arrested by a special anti-kidnapping unit in the state. 

According to her, Elijah, who arrived Ibiade community on June 13, 2025, planned to abduct a prominent individual in Ago Village, Abigi, but his sinister mission was thwarted through timely collaboration between the police and vigilant residents.

Odutola further noted that, the anti-kidnapping unit were able to apprehend and recover some deadly weapon from him, with the help and efforts of Ibiade and Abigi communities.

Odutola added, "following a clearance operation on June 16, 2025, the gang's armourer, Posi Friday, was apprehended with a pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol and eight live cartridges cleverly concealed in a Boom Speaker were recovered from him."

In response to the bravery move and supports from the vigilant residents, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, commended the proactive efforts of Ibiade and Abigi communities. 

He expressed deep appreciation for their sustained communication and support, which were pivotal in cracking the case.

Furthermore, in another development, the spokesperson disclosed that operatives of the Anti-Cultism team also arrested fourteen suspected cultists of two rival groups planning attacks over superiority on June 16, 2025. 

She noted that "the suspects were rounded up in Ijagun, Ogbo, Ijele areas Imaweje areas in Ijebu Ode as they assembled to mark their institution’s examinations signing out."

She added that "further investigations are ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)."

The Command, however, enjoins citizens for continued support while assuring of regular updates on all cases.
