OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that amid the growing food insecurity crisis in the United State of America, USA, the former U.S. President, Barack Obama, has warned that millions of Americans including children, seniors and low-income citizens, could face hunger if lawmakers fail to act in time.
OTN News further reports as gathered that Obama who sounded this alarm, highlighted new figures showing that more than 47 million Americans, including one in five children, currently lack reliable and affordable access to nutritious food.
OTN News observes from the piece of information gathered that the former president stressed that the surging cost of living has pushed more families to rely on SNAP benefits (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), commonly known as food stamps, to meet their basic needs.
However, Obama, calling on Republican lawmakers to prioritize swift action, urged Congress to ensure continued funding and accessibility for the programme, especially ahead of the holiday season.
"If they don’t act, millions of children, seniors, and low-income Americans will go hungry,” Obama warned.
