In a move that marked a significant milestone recognition of the pivotal role of the police in ensuring national security and stability, the Nigerian government has successfully commemorated the first ever National Police Day in the history of the country on Monday, April 7, 2025, with a grand celebration that held at Eagle Square, Abuja.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that a major highpoint of the glamorous grand finale of the National Police Day was a scenic and spectacular parade and procession by police personnel, which showcased their professionalism and skills in the martial arts.

OTN News further reports that the Police parade and procession comprised a wide array of operational and tactical gadgets of the force such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal Robots, specialized EOD disposal vehicles, Special Intervention Squad, Air and land responses, K9 displays, Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), and Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) drill displays, Peacekeeping Paraphernalia amongst others.

The momentous occasion brought together an array of distinguished guests, prominent Nigerians from the highest levels of Government, security agencies, and the private sector including members from the Federal Executive Council, State Governors, the National Assembly, Service Chiefs, Retired Inspectors-General of Police, Deputy Inspectors-General of Police & Members of the Force Management Team, Retired Senior Police officers, Members of Police Veteran Association , Heads and Captains of industries, and other distinguished dignitaries.

In his welcome address, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D, emphasized the significance of the National Police Day as a symbol of the NPF’s renewed commitment to professionalism, community partnership, and service excellence.

The IGP appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the pronouncement of April 7th as an annual National Police Day. He also underscored the President's fulfilment of his pledge to deepen Police reforms, and reinforce its bond with the communities, reiterating the determination of the Force to uphold the rule of law, combat crime, and ensure the safety and security of Nigerians.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Special Guest of Honour who was represented by the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, who later inspected the guard of honour, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to improvement in areas of welfare, provision of modern equipments and technology to improve operational capability and efficiency of the Nigeria Police Force.

The President also commended the police for its bravery, resilience, and the unquantifiable sacrifices of police officers throughout Nigeria in combatting insecurity
