OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Nigerian music industry is in mourning following the death of Afrofuji singer, Afeez Adeshina, popularly known as Destiny Boy, who has died at the age of 22.

OTN News further reports as gathered that the cause of his death remains unknown as of the time of filing this report.

Details surrounding the circumstances of his passing are still unclear, even as the news spreads rapidly across social media and entertainment circles, triggering an outpouring of grief from fans, colleagues and industry observers.

In the wake of his sudden death, a social media post previously shared by the late singer has resurfaced and gone viral, drawing widespread attention for its chilling reflection on ambition, success and mortality.

In the post, Destiny Boy wrote, “Either I make this money or I die young, money must be made.”

The statement has since taken on a haunting significance, with many fans describing it as a stark expression of the pressure, hunger and determination that defined the young artiste’s drive for success in Nigeria’s highly competitive music scene.

A video seen by media and published by Kwara Eaglet shows the late musician’s body being conveyed in a bus to an undisclosed location.

In the footage, it was claimed that Destiny Boy vomited an unknown substance before his death, though no official explanation has been provided regarding the substance or the events that led to his condition and eventual passing.

OTN News recalled that only a little over a year ago, Destiny Boy celebrated a major milestone in his personal life.

In November 2024, he and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child, a baby boy.

Announcing the birth on social media, the singer expressed gratitude, writing, “Alhamdulillah. Junior is here. My first son.”

His death now leaves behind a young family and a newborn child.

OTN News further recalls that Destiny Boy began his journey in the entertainment industry at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos State.

He first found his footing as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, an experience that significantly influenced his artistic direction and deepened his roots in Fuji music.

He rose to national prominence in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit song “If.”

The cover went viral on social media, earning him widespread recognition and establishing him as one of the young talents reshaping Fuji music for a new generation of listeners.

Building on that success, Destiny Boy released several other Fuji-infused covers of popular songs by top Nigerian artistes, including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice and Small Doctor, further solidifying his place within the emerging Afrofuji movement.

His original discography includes songs such as Lamba, One Transaction, Gbese, Billion Dollar, Mio Gbonkankan, and Lowkey, tracks that showcased his unique fusion of traditional Fuji rhythms with modern Afrobeats and street-inspired sounds.

Since news of his death broke, tributes have continued to pour in across social media, with many Nigerians expressing shock at his untimely passing.

Fans and fellow artistes have offered prayers for the repose of his soul and strength for his family, while reflecting on a promising career cut short—one now eerily echoed by the young singer’s own words about chasing success at all costs.
