OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that suspected gunmen have abducted a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State and the Director General of a pro–President Bola Tinubu support group, Asiwaju Media Team, Prince Emorioloye Owoloemi.
OTN News further reports as gathered that sources disclosed that Owoloemi was kidnapped at about 9 a.m. along the Okonga/Olodo Junction in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of the state.
He was reportedly forcefully taken from his office by armed men who arrived the scene in two Hilux vehicles, sparking panic in the area.
Following the abduction, his whereabouts remain unknown, as all efforts to reach him have so far proved futile.
The incident, which occurred in broad daylight within a busy commercial environment, has been widely condemned by residents and political stakeholders.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area, Hon. Maurice Oripenaye, said the council received the report with profound shock and grave concern, describing the abduction as brazen and unacceptable.
According to Oripenaye, the incident represented a flagrant violation of public safety and a direct assault on the peace-loving people of Ilaje. He strongly denounced the act on behalf of the local government and expressed solidarity with the family, friends and associates of the abducted APC chieftain.
“We urge members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten tension or hinder ongoing investigations,” Oripenaye said, adding that the safety and security of all residents of Ilaje Local Government remain the administration’s top priority.
The council chairman disclosed that immediate contact had been established with relevant security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army and local security networks, to ensure a swift, coordinated and decisive response.
He called on security agencies to mobilise all necessary resources to secure the safe and immediate release of Prince Emorioloye Owoloemi, launch a full-scale investigation to apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors, and intensify patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Ilaje to prevent further criminal activities.
Oripenaye also appealed to community leaders, youth groups, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to cooperate with security operatives by providing useful information that could aid ongoing operations.
“Let it be clear that Ilaje Local Government will not tolerate any form of lawlessness, intimidation or violence within our territory,” he said, reaffirming the council’s commitment to protecting lives and property and fostering a safe environment for social, economic and political activities.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command confirmed the incident. The Police Public Relations Officer, Jimoh Abayomi, said information available to the command was still sketchy but confirmed that a full-scale investigation had commenced.
Abayomi, however, urged residents of Ondo State to remain calm, assuring them that the command had put measures in place to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state as efforts continue to secure the release of the abducted APC chieftain and bring the culprits to justice.
