OPEN TELEVISION Naija (OTN) News reports as gathered that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and a former Nigerian leader, General Yakubu Gowon, joined other West African presidents on Wednesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS.

OTN News further reports as gathered that Presidents from Liberia, Togo, and Guinea-Bissau hourned the event as some countries like Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso were not present due to political issues.

The event took place at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, where the original ECOWAS treaty was signed in 1975.

OTN News learnt that General Gowon, the last living leader among the original signers, was honoured for his important role in bringing the region together.

The Presidents, however, promised to keep working towards ECOWAS’s goals, for the smooth running of the states affairs.

The celebration continues at Eko Hotel and Suites.
