The Governor of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has pledged to support traders who lost goods and valuables in their shops that were burnt down by the fire outbreak that occurred last Saturday at Oba Lipede Ultra Modern Market, Kuto, Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital.

Governor Abiodun, pledged his support for the victims of the inferno, during his visit to the market to ascertain the degree of destructions caused by the fire incident.

The Governor also pledged that enumeration would be carried out to determine the loses incurred by shop owners at the market so as to immediately provide succour to those affected and ensure that they can quickly get back on their feet.

He however commended men of the Ogun State Fire Service and other first responder agencies for their timely intervention which prevented the fire from extending to other parts of the market.

“A lot of our people have sustained loses; those that are selling fabrics, food items, those that are tailors, those that are selling dried food items, flours, banana, plantain, yam. But, thankfully, our fire service team responded on time. The emergency response system was activated.

“All hands are on deck. So, what we are going to do is to first enumerate the loses that have been incurred so we can provide cushion to them.

“It is most unfortunate that this has happened at this time, the time when most of them are struggling. So, we feel their pains, and we identify with them, and I have told them they are not alone. I will not leave them alone.

“As a responsible government, we are going to step in and provide the needed support for them at this time so they can continue to do their businesses,” said the Governor.

Prince Dapo Abiodun seized the occasion to inform the traders that he has directed the Bureau of Electrical Services to provide better lighting system to the market to guarantee better illumination and security within the market area, especially at night.

The Governor further noted that the government would study the report on the cause of the fire incident and strategize on how best to prevent or mitigate future re-occurrence of such incident in the major market which has been in existence for about four decades.
