.....Ogun State Government Announces Details as Monarch is Laid to Rest at 91

The Ogun State Government has officially announced the burial arrangements for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 91.

According to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the final burial rites will be held today, Monday, July 14, 2025, at Ogbagba Court, Igbeba, Ijebu-Ode, by 4 PM.

The revered monarch, who reigned for an unprecedented 65 years after ascending the throne on April 2, 1960, was one of Nigeria’s longest-serving and most influential traditional rulers. His passing has drawn nationwide tributes from political leaders, traditional institutions, and Nigerians from all walks of life.

The Ogun State Government has urged residents to "remember the late monarch’s family in their prayers" as the state prepares to bid farewell to a royal icon whose reign shaped the socio-economic and cultural development of Ijebuland and Ogun State at large.

The burial ceremony is expected to be a blend of tradition and modernity, reflecting the late Awujale’s unique legacy as a monarch who balanced deep cultural roots with progressive leadership.

Security and traffic management personnel have been deployed around Ijebu-Ode to ensure orderliness as large crowds are anticipated. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes where necessary.
