Black Saturday: Ogun FRSC Attributes Ogun Explosion to Break Failure, Confirms One Death
Gas Tanker Explosion at Ita Oshin, Abeokuta Attributed to Mechanical Failure BY FRSC

Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has attributed the gas explosion in Ita-Osi, Abeokuta, Ogun State to a break failure on the path of the gas-laden truck.
The Command, in a statement by the Chief Route Commander, FRSC Public Education Officer, Florence Okpe confirmed that only one person, the motor boy, died from the explosion.
However, there are speculations amongst locals who witnessed the crash involving a tanker laden with gas and the attendant inferno which occurred at about 1610 hrs, that, the inferno actually claimed about four lives.
Meanwhile, team of emergency responders in the state comprising the Ogun State Fire Service, the Traffic Compliance & Control Agency(TRACE), the Police and the FRSC have swiftly moved to the scene of the accident to contain the resulting fire, rescue victims and ensure that normalcy returned to vehicular traffic in the area.
Number of people involved were 06 and all male adult 02 got injured and unfortunately 01 person died from the fire incident which is the motor boy that was trapped.
“A total of 05 vehicles were involved. The suspected cause of the crash was mechanical deficiency (brake failure) and the vehicle crash on the road barricade then went into flames and other vehicles around/shops were burnt.
“The fire service were contacted immediately and the scene was codoned off to avoid secondary crash."
Okpe, in the release signed on behalf of the Sector Commander said the Sino Truck with registration number T23771 LA had mechanical deficiency (brake failure) and the driver decided to crash the vehicle on the road barricade.
According to her, the vehicle went up in flames, destroying other vehicles around while other properties near the road were also destroyed.
According to the statement, vehicles involved in the accident included a Nissan with registration number AAN 544 YC; A Micra marked GDB 841 XR; another Nissan marked LSD 993 CY; and a HONDA CRV with no registration number.
She said the corpse was deposited at the state general Hospital morgue Abeokuta while the injured victims were taken by the families.
