The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has urged protest organizers to submit their key details to the State Commissioners of Police to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the nationwide demonstrations.

Egbetokun, while addressing newsmen in Abuja, stated that this measure aims to ensure the protest remains peaceful.

However, addressing the citizens' constitutional rights to assemble and protest, Egbetokun requested: Proposed protest routes and assembly points, expected duration and timeline, leaders' and organizers' names and contact information, measures to prevent criminal hijacking and identify potential troublemakers.

"By providing these details, the organizers can help facilitate a successful and incident-free protest, maintaining public safety and order."

Furthermore, after the information on measures to prevent hijacking by criminal elements and key identifiers for isolating potential troublemakers, Egbetokun said, in the interest of public safety and order, we urge all groups planning to protest to provide necessary details to the Commissioner of Police in the state where the protest is intended to take place.

He further stated that providing this information would enable the police to deploy adequate personnel and resources to ensure public safety. 

OPEN TELEVISION Naija revealed that the IGP emphasized the need for police to be fully informed about the specific routes and areas for the protest to avoid conflicts with other events or activities.

Egbetokun outlined additional guidelines, including establishing clear communication channels with protest leaders to address any concerns or issues that may arise, and minimizing the risk of violence, property damage, or other criminal activities. 

“We encourage all protesters to cooperate with the police, obey the law, and adhere to global best practices for peaceful assembly to guarantee a safe and successful exercise of their rights,” he finished.
