2024 Presidential Election: Ghana's Ruling Party Candidate, Bawumia Accepts Defeat, Congratulates Dramani Mahama

In a move to show respect for the choices of the people of Ghana through their votes, Ghana’s ruling party, New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, on Sunday disclosed that he had accepted defeat in the presidential election held on Saturday, December 8, 2024.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the vice president, Bawumia stated that he had called his opponent, John Dramani Mahama, of National Democratic Congress (NDC) to congratulate him.
OTN News further reports that in a public address from his residence hours after results began trickling in, Bawumia acknowledged his opponent’s victory and expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for the opportunity to serve as Vice President and presidential candidate.
He said “The people of Ghana have spoken; they have voted for change at this time, and we respect it with all humility."
Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the provisional results from the party’s internal collation, which indicate a victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its candidate, former President John Dramani Mahama.
