OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that a 14-year-old student, Esther Etiyemonu, has stepped into the seat of power at Lagos House after emerging winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee, becoming the latest beneficiary of the state’s long-standing One-Day Governor initiative.

OTN News further reports that Etiyemonu, who was hosted at the Lagos State Government House, Marina, assumed the ceremonial role as part of the youth-focused tradition introduced over two decades ago by Nigeria’s First Lady and Senator representing Lagos Central, Oluremi Tinubu.

OTN News observes that the programme is designed to inspire academic excellence and leadership among young people across the state.

Dressed in a ceremonial blue cap and gown, the spelling champion confidently occupied the governor’s seat alongside her One-Day Deputy Governor, Awoyemi Dorcas, and One-Day Secretary, Salami Jumai Olaide.

During the visit, Etiyemonu impressed attendees with her composure and clarity of thought as she formally requested the provision of a school bus for her college, a request that drew commendation for its thoughtfulness and advocacy for collective welfare.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this on his X handle, formerly Twitter, praised the young student for her confidence, discipline, and academic achievement, noting that her performance reflected the values of hard work and excellence the state seeks to promote among its youth.

According to him, Today, I received Miss Etiyemonu Esther, the One Day Governor and overall winner of the 21st Lagos Spelling Bee Competition, a brilliant student of Lagos State Senior Model College Igbokuta, at Lagos House, Marina.

"Her confidence, focus, and hard work stand out. She represents the very best of our youth, and I am incredibly proud of her achievements.

Esther, all of Lagos is rooting for you and your bright future. Congratulations once again," the government said.

Sanwo Olu, however, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives that nurture talent and prepare young Nigerians for leadership roles.

OTN News, however, observes that the event once again highlighted Lagos State’s emphasis on education and youth development.
