Wise FM Ramadan Public Lecture:Radio Remains Powerful Weapon for Peace -SP Oyeyemi

Radio has been described as an all-important tool for the promotion of peace, which Islam represents and a veritable instrument for reshaping society.
This view was expressed on Monday by a former Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) in Ogun State, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, while delivering a lecture at the first Ramadan Public hosted by the Chairman of fronline private radio station based in Abeokuta, Alhaji Isiaq Kokumo Obadeyi.
The Force Spokesperson affirmed that despite the growing popularity of social media, Radio remains a veritable medium for the propagation of truthful, verifiable and credible information because it runs as as system guided by laws, professional rules, regulations and ethics keenly observed by its practitioners and monitored by broadcast regulators unlike social media where different people just post different contents that suits them without considering the legal consequences and impact of such information on the larger society.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi decried the common practice among some so-called self-appointed Islamic clerics on social that use the platform to cast aspersions against other people and one another, all in the name of getting more followers and invariably, making more money via the social media.
The Police Chief therefore commended well-meaning Nigerians who have been sponsoring Ramadan programmes on Radio stations during the on-going Holy month of Ramadan, noting that sponsorship of Islamic programmes on Radio is for the enlightenment and spiritual upliftment of moslem faithfuls.
He pointed out that contrary to the outcry in some quarters that what Nigerians need at this time is only food palliatives, the sponsorship of Radio programmes does not prevent well-meaning high networth individuals from donating food palliatives and monetary support to the needy, in the form of Zakat.
Similarly, Sheikh Abd. Raheem Abdullahi Solaty, another Guest Lecturer at the Ramadan Public lecture, who spoke on the topic:"Keeping promise as a way of maintaining peace in our society" emphasized the need for societal leaders at all levels to always strive to fulfil their promises made to their followers because doing so builds trust and engender progress
The Islamic cleric further enjoined all moslem faithfuls to embrace the culture of keeping promises made by them to their children and spouses at home, promises made to their business partners as well as promises made by them in all other spheres of human relationships, to the best of their human ability since Almighty Allah is the ultimate keeper of all his own promises.
Highpoints of the maiden Wise FM Abeokuta Ramadan Public lecture was the giving of awards to deserving individuals, distribution of food items such as rice, beans, and garri to the needy and other participants at the lecture.
Open Television reports that Islamic musicians such as Alhaja Aminat (Omo Tayebi) and the Islamic music innovator, Alhaji Kabir Alayande, popularly known as Ere Asalatu rendered inspiring Islamic music to the delight of participants at the Ramadan public lecture.
