OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered from Reuters monitored reports that violent protests have erupted in towns and cities across Britain following the killing of three young girls during a knife attack at a children's dance class in Southport in northwest England last week.
OTN News further gathered that the current wave of violent protests sweeping through major cities in the United Kingdom started on Tuesday in the wake of a vigil observed to mourn the young children killed in the unfortunate stabbing spree that led to the death of the three children and severe injuries to several others, including two adults who tried to defend the children during the attack at a Tailor Swift-Themed event at a dance school in the United Kingdom.
According to British Media sources, the violent protests and attacks evolved after a peaceful vigil held for victims of the unfortunate knife attack.
According to monitored ABC news, "The murders were seized on by anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim groups as misinformation spread that the suspected attacker was an immigrant and a radical Islamist."
However, British Police have said the suspect was born in Britain and are not treating it as a terrorist incident.
At the moment, Britain is currently engulfed in the worst widespread riots and violent protests ever experienced within the last 13 years as hundreds of anti-immigration protesters have erupted in towns and cities after a false information spread rapidly on social media that the suspect in the knife attack at a children's dance class in Southport was a radical Muslim migrant.
Meanwhile, Police have revealed that the suspect, 17-year-old Axel Rudakubana was born in Britain but protests by anti-immigration and anti-Muslim demonstrators have continued, descending into violence, arson and looting.
Unfortunately, the protests have spread through cities across the country, including in Liverpool, Bristol and Manchester on Saturday, resulting in dozens of arrests as shops as many business premises were vandalised and looted while several police officers have been injured.
OTN News further reports that on Sunday, the violent protests escalated to a point where hundreds of anti-immigration protesters gathered by a hotel near Rotherham, northern England, believed to be housing asylum seekers.
The protesters, many of whom were wearing masks or balaclavas, threw bricks at police and broke several hotel windows, a Reuters witness said, before setting a large bin close to the hotel on fire.
Reacting to the sad development, British Prime Minister Starmer said "I utterly condemn the far-right thuggery we've seen this weekend," adding that what is happening in Britain at the moment "was criminal violence and not legitimate protest."
According to Merseyside Police, no fewer than twenty-two officers were reported injured, eight of whom were seriously injured in the "violent disorder" in Southport, a seaside town about 20 miles north of Liverpool, as at the time of filing this report.
The protesters are believed to be supporters of the far-right British Defence league.
Many police officers have reportedly suffered varying degrees of injurIes as they tried to keep several hundred rival protesters - largely young men who were chanting slogans - from clashing.
