US Election: This Is Not the Outcome We Hoped For, Says Obama As He Acknowledges Disappointment in Trump’s Win

Former U.S. President, Barack Obama, has voiced his disappointment over Donald Trump's recent election win, noting it was not the outcome he had wished for but underscoring the necessity of a peaceful transition of power.

In a statement released earlier this week, Obama said, “This is obviously not the result we wanted. But democracy means understanding that our views won’t always prevail and accepting a peaceful transfer of power.”

Obama’s remarks stand in stark contrast to Trump's refusal to concede to Joe Biden four years ago, which led to the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, by Trump supporters.

Recall that Obama and his wife, former first lady Michelle Obama, had endorsed and campaigned for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.

Since leaving the White House in 2017, Obama has retained high approval from his party and has remained some of the Democrats’ most effective communicators, drumming up excitement for Harris and Walz while slamming Trump during primetime speaking spots at the Democratic National Convention.

The ex-president however voiced pride over the efforts of Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, who were soundly beaten in the election.

He said by calling them “two extraordinary public servants who ran impressive campaigns.”
