UNILAG Places Ban on Skit making, Content Creation on Campus Without Approval

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has banned any form of skitmaking, vox pops, and other forms of content creation on campus and in its hostels without prior approval from the school’s management.
OTN News further reports that the institution, who disclosed this in a statement signed by the Head of Communication, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, said that it reason for the new move was increasingly concerned about individuals, both students and visitors, using university premises for filming without permission.
According to the statement, the attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities, without appropriate authorisation.
Furthermore, UNILAG noted that the directive is aimed at preserving the institution’s image, maintaining an atmosphere conducive to learning, and ensuring orderliness on campus.
The school emphasized that any form of video recording, whether by students, staff, or outsiders must receive formal clearance from the Communications Unit.
It added that while it supports creativity, all productions must follow established procedures for safety and proper conduct.
The institution, however, urged full compliance from the university community and the general public, stressing that the rule is “in the interest of order, safety, and collective responsibility.”
