Tinubu Leads Fleet of Prominent Nigerians, Others to Pay Last Respect to Ex-Nigerian President Buhari Buried in Daura
Nigeria, Africa's most populous country has paid her last respect to former Nigerian military ruler and a two-term democratically elected President, General Muhammadu Buhari, whose remains were interred at his favourite sitting spot within his residence at Daura, an ancient Northern state on Tuesday evening.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday led a fleet of prominent Nigerians and other dignitaries across the world to Daura, Katsina state, where the remains of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari were laid to rest on at a solemn ceremony.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the state burial, conducted according to Islamic rites, marked the peak of a period of national mourning for a leader who served Nigeria both as a military Head of State and a democratically elected president.
The body was interred after the funeral prayer led by the Imam of the Central Mosque in Daura, Sheikh Salisu Rabiu, at 5:50pm.
Earlier on Tuesday, the remains of the statesman arrived in Katsina from London, where he passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.
A Nigerian Air Force aircraft conveyed his body, accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima and other senior government officials, to the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport.
From the airport, the casket, draped in the national colours, was transported by choppers to Daura, a journey that saw thousands line the routes, eager to catch a final glimpse of their beloved leader.
The funeral prayers and interment took place at Buhari’s private residence, attended by a select gathering of family, close associates, and Islamic clerics.
A fleet of prominent personalities who thronged Daura to pay their last respects were President Bola Tinubu, who personally received the remains in Katsina, alongside several state governors, cabinet members, and former heads of state.
The Federal Government had earlier declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the late President, allowing Nigerians, particularly those in the North-West region, to participate in or observe the state burial proceedings.
In Daura, the atmosphere was one of deep sorrow mixed with quiet reverence. Thousands of residents, kinsmen, and well-wishers had thronged the ancient town, creating a palpable sense of loss.
Despite the heavy security presence, commercial activities continued, albeit with a subdued air, as the community prepared to bid farewell to their most illustriothe son and elder statesman.
Tributes have continued to pour in from leaders across thecworld and prominent Nigerians, with many describing Buhari as a patriot, a man of integrity, and a leader who dedicated his life to the service of his country.
