Tension hits Abeokuta as suspected cultists kill Olumide Ifeoluwa TESCOM on Easter Sunday

Palpable tension has gripped Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state as a young man identified as Olumide Ifeoluwa Popularly Known as TESCOM has been killed by suspected cultists in Abeokuta late evening of Easter Sunday.

According to eyes witnesses accounts within the community, the incident took place in the Ijeun Titun community in the Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State around 8.30 pm when the deceased young man was reportedly breaking his fast in the company of his friends at a car wash within the community.

Sources within the community where the killing took place told journalists that the gang members invaded the community in a commando style on Sunday Evening and started shooting sporadically.

The sources revealed that the killing may be the outcome of a supremacy battle between and among various cult groups in the gateway state in recent times.

A source who confirmed the incident said the gang members came into the community when the targeted young man popularly knows wn as TESCOM was breaking his fast.

The source said: “Some boys came into the community with a Toyota Corolla and opened fire on the victim while he was breaking his fast with his friends. The incident happened at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Open Television recalls that no fewer than 50 persons have been killed in 2023 during pockets of clashes and retaliations between members of the Eiye and Aiye confraternities of which three innocent schoolboys were also killed in Sagamu recently.

Given the observed patterns of retaliatory attacks over the years, tension has gripped residents of Abeokuta who have had to keep low profile social activities during Easter celebrations in the ancient city.

Efforts to confirm the incident from Police authorities in the state proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
