Shocking as NDLEA Seizes Over 900 Explosives Hidden in Nasarawa-Zamfara Traveling Bus, Arrest 30-Year-Old Suspect

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a commercial vehicle transporting 942 explosives concealed in a sack along the Kaduna–Zaria Expressway.

OTN News further reports that the explosives, which were hidden in a bus travelling from Nasarawa to Zamfara State, were seized on Saturday, May 3, leading to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect, Nura Sani Muhammad, also known as Nura Hariji. 

The Detector, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, in a statement on Sunday, asserted that the interception was part of a series of coordinated operations across multiple states, resulting in the dismantling of drug syndicates and the arrest of high-profile suspects, including a wanted drug kingpin. 

The statement partly reads, “In Kaduna, NDLEA operatives on patrol along Kaduna – Zaria expressway on Saturday 3rd May intercepted a commercial vehicle coming from Nasarawa State heading to Zamfara State. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a total of Nine Hundred and Forty-Two (942) explosives concealed in a sack and the subsequent arrest of a 30-year-old suspect Nura Sani Muhammad (alias Nura Hariji).”

The statement also read, “At the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, NDLEA officers on Friday, May 2, apprehended Bobby Morris Osas as he attempted to board a Turkish Airlines flight to Italy. A search of his luggage revealed 8,130 pills of Tramadol in various dosages (100mg, 200mg, and 225mg). 

“The Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) thwarted an attempt by a drug syndicate to smuggle 104 grams of Tramadol and Skunk hidden in body cream containers to Iraq via a Lagos-based courier company on Monday, April 28. 

“In Kano State, a five-man syndicate led by Aminu Musa (alias Kadagi) was arrested on Wednesday, April 30, at Dangoro Market with 50 blocks of Skunk weighing 21.6kg. 

“NDLEA operatives in Edo State intercepted a white Toyota bus transporting a large consignment of assorted opioids from Onitsha to Auchi on Thursday, May 1. The seizure included: 314,020 pills of Tramadol, Rophynol, Diazepam, and Exol5; 638 bottles of Codeine syrup and 200 ampoules of Pentazocine injection. A suspect, Dare Adeyemo, was detained in connection with the seizure. 

“In Anambra State, a Mazda commercial bus marked XA343TSE was intercepted on April 30 at Agu-Awka Junction, leading to the recovery of: 50,400 capsules of Tramadol; 500 tablets of Co-codamol; 300 ampoules of Pentazocine injection and a suspect, Chinedu Eneh, was arrested. 

“In Niger State, NDLEA operatives patrolling the Kontagora–Mokwa Road on May 3 intercepted a Mitsubishi Canter truck marked RBH 104 ZY, recovering: 5,500 capsules of Tramadol; 2,300 ampoules of Pentazocine injection. A 30-year-old suspect, Yusuf Abubakar, was taken into custody. 

“After nearly a year-long investigation, NDLEA operatives on Saturday, April 26, arrested Dominic Chiegozie Obijiaku, 52, the Managing Director of Ovidaq International Ltd. Obijiaku, who had been on the agency’s wanted list, was linked to the importation of over 2.6 million pills of Tramadol 225mg intercepted at the Apapa Seaport in Lagos on July 28, 2024. A follow-up search at his Lekki residence yielded 51 wraps of Canadian Loud (34 grams).” the statement added.
