Russia Unveils Cancer Vaccine, Declares It Ready for Use After Breakthrough Trials

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that Russia has announced a major medical breakthrough with the development of a colorectal cancer vaccine that is now “ready for use” after years of intensive research and preclinical trials.
OTN News further reports as gathered that the Veronika Skvortsova, head of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency (FMBA), disclosed the milestone during the 10th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.
According to her, the vaccine, which has been in development for several years, has completed mandatory preclinical studies over the last three years, paving the way for official approval.
“The vaccine is now ready for use; we are awaiting official approval,” Skvortsova confirmed, according to reports by Russian news agency Tass.
OTN News observes from the information gathered that the preclinical data demonstrated not only the safety of the vaccine, even with repeated administration, but also its high efficacy.
Researchers reported a reduction in tumour size and slowed cancer progression in the range of 60% to 80%, depending on disease characteristics, with survival rates showing significant improvement.
OTN News further observes from the information gathered that the first phase of rollout will target colorectal cancer patients, but Skvortsova revealed that further trials are underway to expand its application to other aggressive forms of cancer, including glioblastoma and melanomas such as ocular melanoma.
Unlike conventional vaccines that protect against infectious diseases like measles or chickenpox, cancer vaccines are designed to train the body’s immune system to recognise and destroy cancer cells.
While some therapeutic vaccines already exist for cancers like prostate and bladder, experts, including the American Cancer Society, highlight experimental vaccines like this as a promising frontier in oncology.
The announcement was made during the 10th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, which brought together more than 8,400 participants from over 75 countries under the theme “The Far East: Cooperation for Peace and Prosperity.”
