Rotary Club of Lagos Island, Indo Eye Care, conducts 30 Free Eye Cataract Surgeries for Vulnerable Lagos Residents

No fewer than thirty (30) vulnerable residents of Lagos, Nigeria, have benefitted from the eye cataract surgeries sponsored by Rotary Club of Lagos Island.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the humanitarian medical outreach, which commenced around 1 pm on Saturday, November 30, 2024 took place at Indo Care Hospital, Ajao Estate, Lagos.
Speaking during a brief opening ceremony for the medical outreach, the President, Rotary Club of Lagos Island, Rotarian Deeksha Hiranandani & Chartered President Rotarian Vinod Garg revealed that the theme of the humanitarian medical outreach "Mission for Vision 2024” speaks volume about the socio-economic significance of the project to the society as underprivileged people who have eye cataract, cannot work at optimal capacity, but given a successful surgery, their restored vision will enable them to contribute their own quota to the economy, making them productive again.
"Once vulnerable residents with eye cataracts successfully get the eye cataract removed, it's a mission accomplished for the Rotary Club of Lagos Island!," he affirmed.
The President also added that the club was going to reach out to more patients and conduct 100 plus eye cataract surgeries in Kano state in the month of February, 2025, and for this upcoming outreach, she appreciated the General Secretary, Rotarian NG Krishnan and Chair Mission for Vision Rotarian Anil Gopwani who have both been striving hard to get sponsorships for maximum number of surgeries.
Also speaking at the outreach, Vice President Rotarian Jeetu Hira, Past President Rotarian Kamlesh Jain and Rotarian Ravinder Sharma, advised people who have eye cataract to desist from applying unverified home made medications to their eyes, urging that they should instead, go for proper medical diagnosis, treatment and gladly embrace the window of an eye surgery in order to avoid sad stories that touch the hearts of countless patients who have gone totally blind as a result of such harmful practices.
