The Ogun State Police Command has launched investigations into a case of conspiracy and murder of a prophet from the Celestial Church of Christ, Hebrew Parish, who was killed by unidentified gunmen who opened fire on him during an active church service on Sunday morning, and then escaped.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Ogun Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, made available to the Press reads that, "On January 19, 2025, around 10:30 AM, the divisional police officer of Idiroko received a report that someone had been killed at a Celestial Church located along Old Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko.
"Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and discovered one Yomi Adetula, a 54-year-old man, lying face up in a pool of blood that stained his white celestial garment.
"Upon closer inspection, his body was found to be riddled with bullets, and his head was severely damaged with an axe to confirm that he was indeed dead.
During the police investigation, it was revealed that three men entered the church, brandished a long double-barreled gun, aimed at their target, and fired a shot that caused chaos, and the assailant escaped.
Through the police's efforts, the body was transported to the General Hospital morgue in Ilaro.
The statement further reveals that "No arrest has been made yet, but the police are actively working to apprehend the fleeing suspects who escaped from the church located toward the border area.
Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored in the area, and potential clues are expected to emerge in the coming days as investigations into this tragic incident are underway.
