Police Inspector In Custody for Opening Fire on Popular Musician After Friendly Visit At Enugu Police Headquarters

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a Police Inspector from its Anti-Cultism Tactical Squad over the alleged killing of a popular traditional Ogene musician, Okezie Mba, known as Igbo-Jah.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that the incident took place on Friday, October 25, 2024, at about 8:10pm.
OTN News further gathered that at the Tactical Squad’s Headquarters, the musician had just finished a friendly visit and was leaving the premises when the officer unexpectedly opened fire.
Ndukwe stated that the motive behind the officer’s actions remains unclear.
The injured musician was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead by medical staff. His body has been deposited in the mortuary, awaiting an autopsy.
Following the incident, the State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has ordered a full investigation, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State CID, to ensure that the matter is thoroughly examined and appropriate disciplinary measures are taken.
In his message, Uzuegbu described the event as unacceptable and extended condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
He assured the public that the officer involved, along with any other parties found culpable, will face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner also appealed for calm and urged those connected to the victim to cooperate with the investigation to ensure justice is delivered.
