The Oyo State Government has announced Friday July 12, 2024 as the date to crown the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija reports that the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, Governor Seyi Makinde will at a ceremony slated for Mapo Hall, present Staff of Office to Oba Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Recall that the stool became vacant following the demise of Oba Lekan Balogun on March 14, 2024, who was the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadan.
OPEN TELEVISION Naija further recalls that the Ibadan kingmakers, at a meeting held on April 12, 2024, nominated and selected Oba Olakulehin as the Olubadan-designate in accordance with the Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration of 1957.
However, the state governor, Seyi Makinde gave the approval of the installation of the new king in a memo dated June 14, 2024.
In the statement by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade on Friday, the government urged Ibadan people to learn to be patient and believe an administration that has not let them down in the last five years.
The statement reads in part:“Our people must learn to be patient and believe an administration that has not let them down in five years."
The State Commissioner for Information further maintained that unfounded rumours, insinuations and mischievous innuendos had not derailed Makinde from the path of justice and fairness.
He however advised the people of Oyo State and Ibadan in particular to await the spectacle of the coronation and presentation of the staff of office on July 12.
