An unnamed driver behind the wheel of a BMW car committed a fatal act on Sunday, killing the passenger of a motorcycle popularly known as  Okada passenger, leaving the okada rider injured.

OPEN TELEVISION Naija gathered that the tragedy unfolded as the driver recklessly drove against traffic at the Abule Oko axis of the dilapidated Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway.

The incident occurred around 2:51 PM, when the BMW with the number plate KRD 760 GK collided with a TVS motorcycle bearing the number plate MEK 050 QE.

An eyewitness explained that both the motorcycle rider and the passenger were on their rightful lane, unsuspecting of the impending disaster.

Furthermore, it was gathered that the accident happened at a bend. At this section of the road, the deplorable condition of the road exacerbates the danger. Motorists navigating the route from Abeokuta often resort to one-way connections near the Papa-Iyana Ilaro junction, only to rejoin the main road in front of Lafarge Staff Quarters close to Ifo.

The Public Relations Officer of Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the accident based on an eyewitness account.

According to the witness, the BMW driver, en route to Ifo, brazenly defied traffic rules, colliding with the motorcycle and its passengers coming on their rightful lane opposite him at a bend.

Tragically, the pillion passenger was pronounced dead upon arrival at the State Hospital Ifo, while the rider continues to receive medical attention.

He noted that the lifeless body of the passenger now rests in the same hospital.

Akinbiyi said that, the incident caused a gridlock in the area, but TRACE operatives and policemen managed the situation.

However, this is not an isolated incident. Lives continue to be lost due to one-way drive violations on this treacherous stretch of road.

OPEN TELEVISION Naija urgently calls upon the relevant authorities to address the road's condition and prevent further unnecessary loss of life.
