Oldest Nigerian Actor Charles Olumo Agbako Passes Away Aged 101

Nigeria’s oldest actor, AbdulSalam Sanyaolu, widely known as “Charles Olumo Agbako,” has passed away at the age of 101.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News gathered that the aged actor, passed away on Thursday morning as Confirmed by the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) ooficial Instagram through its National President, Bolaji Amusan, known as Mr. Latin who confirmed the death of the aged actor.
The post reads, “#tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Burial details will be shared later. Good night father, 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024,” he wrote.
OTN News reports that tributes have started pouring in across social media for "Agbako," as fans and colleagues reflect on the life, times and contributions of the Yoruba film legend.
OTN News recalls that Charles Olumo was born on February 25, 1923, in Owode, Ogun State.
Agbako reportedly experienced slight fatigue early Thursday, October 31, 2024, and decided to rest, during which he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Pa Olumo Agbako began his acting career in 1953 and became a celebrated figure in Yoruba cinema, featuring in notable films such as "Ija Ominira," "Saworo Ide," "Jagun," Jaiyesimi," "Taxi Driver," "Aiye," and "Igbo Dudu," among many others.
Fellow actors shared their grief and admiration for the deceased actor.
Actor Jide Kosoko wrote, “Good night ooo, Baba Charles, aka Agbako. 101 years, ba wasa ba. RIP.”
Another Nollywood actor, Kunle Afod also paid tribute, saying, “Good night Pa Charles Olumo (Baba Agbako), the oldest actor. 101 years, Sun re ooo.”
Funke Akindele shared, “Awwwwww may his soul rest in peace. Wow. Oluwa tobi loba,” while film producer Kazim Adeoti added, “May his soul rest in peace. Orun re o Baba.”
Additionally, Mercy Aigbe and Biodun Okeowo (Omo Butty) also honored him, with Okeowo noting, “No matter how old our loved ones are, we never want to see them go! Rest well, sir.”
Charles Olumo will be fondly remembered and Known for his compelling portrayals of chiefs, warriors, and formidable villains in films having started his career with stage plays and smoothly transitioned to film as the industry metamorphosed over the years.
