OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Ogun State Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has intensified efforts to advance technical and vocational education through a comprehensive monitoring and familiarisation tour across the eight state-owned technical colleges.
OTN News further reports that the exercise, spearheaded by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Technical and Vocational Education Board (OGSTVEB), Mrs. Mojisola Adenowo, is part of the Ogun State Economic Transformation Programme (OGSTEP), aimed at ensuring sustainable improvement in the sector.
Speaking during the tour, Adenowo explained that the exercise was designed to assess academic activities, monitor staff and students’ welfare, and ensure proper handling of facilities provided under the World Bank-assisted project.
She emphasized that the initiative would help sustain the remarkable progress recorded in the state’s technical and vocational education system.
Adenowo commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for the holistic rehabilitation of all state technical colleges, noting that the administration’s investment in infrastructure, modern tools, and manpower development had created a more conducive learning environment.
She also lauded the World Bank for its financial and technical support, especially in the provision of equipment and grants, urging the global institution to continue its partnership until the project’s completion.
The OGSTVEB boss charged principals to maintain facilities, retrain teachers, and adopt hands-on teaching approaches to make learners industry-ready and self-reliant.
She encouraged the schools to put their new facilities to productive use by exploring revenue-generating opportunities while advising students to embrace skill development as a pathway to global relevance.
“I want to advise you all to take your industrial training (DPT) seriously, as outstanding performance could lead to permanent jobs in major companies,” she said.
Adenowo also revealed that plans were underway to introduce aviation-related courses to equip students for opportunities in the emerging aviation sector around the new Ogun State Airport.
In his remarks, the Principal of Government Science and Technical College, Ilara-Remo, Mr. Kolawole Ademola, described the tour as inspiring and timely, commending Governor Abiodun for the extensive renovation and provision of modern facilities that have boosted enrollment and renewed student enthusiasm.
He added that the school had implemented maintenance and security measures to safeguard its assets and would soon begin offering diagnostic and wheel alignment services to external mechanics to generate revenue.
Similarly, the Principal of Government Technical College, Ijebu-Ode, Mr. Adejimi Adegboyega, expressed gratitude to the state government and the World Bank for their sustained support, describing the monitoring visit as a morale booster that demonstrated the government’s genuine commitment to revamping technical education.
Other principals echoed similar sentiments, describing the initiative as a major step toward repositioning vocational education in the state.
They also called for continuous teacher training and regular supervision to maintain quality standards.
The monitoring exercise covered all eight technical colleges in Idi-Aba (Abeokuta), Ijebu-Ode, Ota, Ijebu-Igbo, Ilara-Remo, Ayetoro, Igbesa, and Ilaro, as well as skill acquisition centers in Iperu and Ilisan.
The initiative, according to the OGSTVEB, reinforces Ogun State’s determination to become a national leader in technical and vocational education, equipping young people with employable skills, promoting innovation, and fostering self-reliance.
