The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has dissolved all standing committees constituted during the first term of the Wale Olanrewaju-led administration, as part of a broader strategy to reposition the union for effective service delivery in 2026.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the development was made public in a statement signed by the Secretary of the Union, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, on behalf of the State Council.
According to him, the development, announced by the newly elected executive, is aimed at widening participation, engaging more members and assigning broader responsibilities to drive the council’s vision and institutional aspirations.
The statement reveals that the dissolution will create room for inclusiveness and optimal utilization of members’ capacities across various professional and administrative areas of the union.
The council commended members who served on the dissolved committees, describing their contributions as selfless and instrumental to the progress recorded during the administration’s first term.
Approval for the constitution of new committees, as well as the expansion of some existing ones, was granted at the first Executive Council meeting of the Wale Olanrewaju-led administration in 2026.
Among the approved committees are:
The Capacity Development and Programme Exchange Committee, Ventures and Asset Management Committee, Membership Revalidation Committee, Social and Welfare Committee, Project Development Committee, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, Media Parliament Guest Forum, Ramadan Lecture/Iftar Committee, Health and Fitness Committee, and The 2026 Press Week Committee, among others.
The executive disclosed that the full list of committee members will be announced and formally inaugurated during the council’s first Congress.
In line with a key campaign pledge, the council also revealed that plans to provide uninterrupted internet access for members are at an advanced stage, with service providers already engaged and agreements concluded to actualise the initiative.
Additionally, the NUJ Ogun State Council has fixed February 5, 2026, as Unity Party Day, a special event aimed at strengthening solidarity, celebrating progress and reaffirming commitment to continuity and development under the new leadership.
The council expressed appreciation to stakeholders and members for their support so far, assuring journalists in the state that the current administration remains committed to deeper reforms and greater achievements.
