'OGSQ is a Game Changer Initiative' Says MAPOLY Rector, Commends Ogun Government for Institutional Partnership

The Management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, has commended the Ogun State Government for the establishment of the Ogun Skiils Qualification Board, describing the board as a key enabler of competency based assessment and certification of skills in the state.
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered from a press statement by the institution's Head of Protocol Unit, Mr. 'Yemi Ajibola that the Rector, Arc. Dr. ‘Koye Jolaoso, gave this commendation while hosting the Executives of Ogun State Skills Qualification Board at his office, stating that the Institution has established an NBTE-accredited centre dedicated to coordinating skills development initiatives at the Polytechnic.
The Centre, Dr.Jolaoso noted, is designed to deliver competency-based training and assessment in full compliance with national standards.
The Rector further noted that MAPOLY is already infusing skills development into its programmes in line with the mandate of the National Board for Technical Education in a bid to facilitate the alignment of academic offerings with current industry requirements and demands.
*OGSQ Partnership Significance*
The partnership with OGSQ, according to the Rector, would position MAPOLY students for structured competency-based assessment and certification that is aligned with the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) of the NBTE.
The NSQF emphasizes practical, competency-based training and certification at different levels, for technical and vocational institutions nationwide.
Dr. Jolaoso harped on the Management’s commitment to integrating assessment and certification processes into the existing skill training programmes.
*OGSQ Offerings Explained*
Earlier, the Director, Ogun State Skills Qualification Board, Mrs. Oluwabusola Lawal explained that the new framework empowers polytechnics in Ogun State to conduct training internally, while the Board oversees assessment and certification.
According to Mrs. Lawal, the new approach will enhance the credibility of qualifications for employment and career opportunities.
She further emphasized that assessments will now occur concurrently with training, enabling students to demonstrate practical mastery of skills rather than relying solely on traditional written examinations.
Additionally, students will be registered on a centralized platform for documentation, certification, and streamlined verification of records.
The institution also announced plans to acquire additional facilities and equipment to support the expanded rollout of competence-based programmes, with infrastructure upgrades currently in progress.
*Similar Partnership with GIZ*
The Rector further informed the leadership of OGSQ of an ongoing collaboration between MAPOLY and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) on competence-based training, describing the collaboration with OGSQ as another key strategic step toward deepening practical education and improving the global competitiveness of MAPOLY graduates in both local and international labour markets.
The Ogun State Skills Qualification Board, accredited by the NBTE, reiterated its dedication to close collaboration with polytechnics across the state to ensure the seamless implementation of this framework.

The interactive session with the Director, Ogun Skills Qualification Board was witnessed by the entire Management team of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic as the Deputy Rector, Dr.Mrs.Yetunde Lanre-Iyanda, the Registrar, Mrs. Bunmi Elewodalu and the Bursar, Mrs.Folasade Madariola.
Also present was the Director, Skills Acquisition Centre, Engineer Dr. Olanrewaju Apampa alongside other officials of the Polytechnic and the State Skills Acquisition Board.
