As part of moves to make the observance of fastings easier for workers of both faith, the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has on Thursday, announced a reduction in work hours for state employees to accommodate the ongoing Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the governor said the adjustment was intended to support workers during the fasting season and would take effect from Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The directive, which was contained in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, titled ‘Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods.’ The circular stated that public servants should close work by 2pm from Monday to Thursday, and 1pm on Fridays, during the current fasting seasons.

“This gesture of the Governor is to enable public servants have sufficient time to pray for the existing peace and tranquillity in the state to continue unhindered, more so as the gubernatorial election is holding in the state this year,” the circular read.

However, those on essential services, particularly medical personnel, are excluded from the arrangement due to the critical nature of their duties.

Governor Adeleke also directed all political office holders, accounting officers of ministries, departments and agencies, heads of non-ministerial agencies, local government areas, and Local Council Development Authorities to comply and ensure wide dissemination of the circular’s contents among staff.
