OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports that the Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, who has been managing the Nigeria Football Association, for over a decade, has announced his retirement from the international football after earning 83 caps and featuring in five major tournaments.
OTN News further reports that the captain, who described his decade-long career as a dream fulfilled, highlighted moments such as winning Olympic bronze in 2016, playing at the 2018 World Cup, and leading Nigeria to a silver medal at AFCON 2023, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
In a move to show his sincere appreciation over the journey so far, Ekong thanked coaches, teammates, and fans for their support, saying the time had come to pass the captaincy to the next generation.
He, however, noted that while his playing chapter with the Super Eagles has ended, his commitment to Nigerian communities will continue.
