The gospel music community is grieving the loss of rising star Aduke Ajayi, widely known as Aduke Gold, who has passed away.
Gospel artist, Esther Igbeke shared the sad news on social media on Tuesday, posting a tribute alongside Aduke Gold’s photo with the caption: “A general has fallen. RIP.”
Aduke Gold's passing follows the recent death of another prominent gospel singer, Egbin Orun, who died on April 28, 2024, as confirmed by Esther Igbekele on Instagram.
Despite the competitive gospel music scene, Aduke Gold had made a significant impact with her soul-stirring songs and deep passion for her craft, which earned her a growing fanbase.
Her breakthrough single, “Nitori Ogo” (which means ‘Because of Glory’), from her popular eight-track album, gained widespread acclaim on social media.
Aduke Gold had previously shared her inspiring journey on Instagram, recounting the hardships she faced on her path to success.
She spoke of her early struggles, from selling slippers, yam, and fried fish to working at a frozen foods store packing fish heads. She also learned to cook with firewood due to the scarcity of kerosene.
Aduke Gold’s life was marked by personal challenges, including being orphaned at four and battling severe vertigo.
In addition to her musical achievements, Aduke Gold also excelled academically. She earned a degree in History and International Relations from Lagos State University, thanks to a scholarship from Hon. Opeyemi Bamidele, who was the Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Lagos State at the time.
