OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) on Thursday, confirmed the recovery of two decomposed bodies after a heavy downpour on Wednesday in the state.

OTN News further reports as gathered that the Director General of NSEMA, Abdullahi Baba Arah, who confirmed the recovery on Thursday said that the bodies were discovered downstream of the bridge where the floodwaters has passed.

According to him, “The bodies were discovered downstream of the bridge where the floodwaters had passed, after a heavy downpour on Wednesday washed away the sand dunes that had buried the corpses.

He further explained that the decomposed bodies were recovered on Thursday downstream of the bridge, noting that the previous day’s rainfall followed the water channel and eroded the sand dunes concealing the remains, which were found in an advanced state of decomposition.

OTN News had earlier reported that the flood, triggered by heavy rainfall, submerged buildings and swept many residents from their homes.

However, OTN News observes that the Niger State Government reported that no fewer than 700 people remain missing, while 207 individuals have been confirmed dead as a result of the disaster.
