MAPOLY Alumni Lagos Chapter Pays Glowing Tribute To Late Media Lecturer, Taiwo Otunba

The Chairman, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Alumni Association, (MAPALUM) Lagos Chapter, Mr. Gafar Odubote, has paid glowing tributes in honour of the memory of a former Head of the Mass Communication Department, late Alhaji Taiwo Gbolahan Otunba who passed away on Thursday April 10, 2025.
Mr. Odubote described late Otunba as “A distinguished linguist and communication scholar, visionary thinker, and a highly revered lecturer among lecturers. His immense contribution to education and his dedicated mentorship of countless professionals who graduated from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, formerly Ogun State Polytechnic, Abeokuta, will remain cherished.”
Mr. Odubote, in his tributes said, “We fondly remember his captivating lectures, marked by his articulate renditions, scholarly presentations, his distinct American accent, and the masterful eloquence with which he delivered topics on writing for the mass media.”
Similarly, the former National President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Olalekan Otun, while reflecting on the legacies of the late Media lecturer, stated that, “The remarkable influence of Mr.Taiwo Otunba is evident in our pursuit of impartial journalism, balanced media reporting, and unwavering professionalism. His guidance has profoundly shaped our careers and values.”
He further added that, “The late Mr. Taiwo Otunba will be sorely missed by the Muslim community, his neighbours—including the former President Olusegun Obasanjo—at Ita-Eko, Abeokuta, where he stood as both a community leader and an extraordinary intellectual.”
OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News recalls that Alhaji Taiwo Otunba in his life time served Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, meritoriously for more than three decades, rising through the academic career ladder to become, the Head of the Mass Communication Department, before his retirement.
He was actively involved with the association of retired staff of the Polytechnic where he served as Chairman until his demise.
OTN News further reports that the late Media scholar was buried at the Muslim cemetery, Olomoore, Abeokuta at a well-attended ceremony, according to Islamic rites on Friday afternoon.
