The Acting Registrar of the College for Legal Studies in Yola, Musa Chiroma, has been ordered to pay N1 million in compensation for slapping a married lecturer, Fadimatu Musa.

As gathered by OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News, the ruling came from the Chief Magistrate Court 3 in Yola, Adamawa State, of which he was discharged by the court after making the payment.

In addition to the N1 million damages, Chiroma was ordered to cover N80,000 in prosecution costs, submit a written apology, and provide an assurance not to harm or retaliate against the lecturer in the future.

The case was presided over by Chief Magistrate, Uwani Danladi, who dismissed the matter after Chiroma complied with all the conditions.

Chiroma had originally been arraigned on May 13, 2024, facing charges of assault, criminal force to deter a public servant, and voluntarily causing hurt offenses under sections 244 and 219 of the Penal Law 2018.

According to the initial report, Chiroma assaulted the Assistant Chief Lecturer, Fadimatu, on April 15, 2024, because she barred a student from taking an exam due to unpaid fees.

OTN News revealed that Inspector Abubakar Nurudeen prosecuted the case, with S. N. Agaecheta, defending Chiroma, and Mrs. Fatima Bello Raji, from the Nigeria Bar Association Women Forum, attending to ensure justice was served.
