Kano Government to Sponsor Weddings, Provide Start-up Funds for Over 1000 Repentant Miscreants

OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News reports as gathered that the Kano State Hisbah Board has announced plans to sponsor the weddings of over one thousand repentant thugs, who surrendered their weapons and renounced violence.
OTN News further reports as gathered that the Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, who disclosed this at an event held at the Police Headquarters in Bompai, urged other thugs who had not yet surrendered to take advantage of the programme.
According to him, “this programme is part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s initiative to support youths who have turned away from crime and want to live a decent life."
Daurawa, however, cautioned the youths to ensure their repentance was genuine.
Speaking at the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf represented by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said that the screening exercise by the police was the first step in the rehabilitation process.
He noted that after the rehabilitation process, the NDLEA will screen them to be sure that, indeed these youths have repented.
“After this, the NDLEA will also screen the youths to confirm the sincerity of their repentance,” the governor stated.
Speaking further, he added that the government will provide the repentant youths with start-up funds, vocational training, and even educational opportunities for those who wish to continue school.
Echoing the governor's representative, the state commissioner of police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said that the exercise showed the government’s commitment to fighting crime and giving young people a second chance.
However, some of the youth leaders, expressed gratitude to the government and stakeholders for supporting their decision to change.
