President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his victory in the Edo State Governorship election held on Saturday.
As gathered by OPEN TELEVISION NAIJA (OTN) News in a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the APC's national and Edo State leaders, as well as the party's governors, for their contributions to securing the victory.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Okpebholo the winner on Sunday after a highly competitive race against his opponents.
“INEC has reaffirmed its dedication to conducting free and fair elections in Nigeria,” said, Tinubu.
He described Okpebholo's win as a reflection of the people’s trust in the APC's vision for progress, economic reforms, and dedication to improving the lives of Nigerians.
The President urged Okpebholo to embrace his new role with humility and called on him to unite the people of Edo State while focusing on the State’s development.
“This victory is not a moment for celebration alone, but a responsibility to serve. I urge you to extend a hand of friendship to your opponents and work towards unity in Edo State,” Tinubu advised.
Tinubu also commended the other candidates for their participation, acknowledging the peaceful nature of the election as a positive step in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy.
He highlighted the significance of peaceful elections, noting that they are a testament to the country's growing political stability.
For those unhappy with the outcome, the President encouraged them to seek legal recourse as a means of addressing their concerns.
Tinubu further applauded the people of Edo State for their orderly behavior during the election, which he said demonstrated the progress of Nigeria’s democratic journey over the last 25 years of continuous civilian governance.
The President however praised INEC and security agencies for their effective roles in ensuring a peaceful and successful election process.
